The 4H Club of the Philippines is one of the Rural Based Organizations recognized by the Philippine Government through the Department of Agriculture and is assisted, organized and implemented by its local counterpart, the City Agriculture Office. Since the COVID-19 pandemic caused so much division and necessary isolation, the Davao City Agriculture Office initiated the Inter-District 4H Club Parol Making Contest which aimed to engage farm youth in an activity that promotes hope and resilience and unite in the common goal of spreading the message of theParol, or Christmas Star, which symbolizes hope in this time of uncertainties. The Parols were made of indigenous materials that highlighted the districts’ commodities such as corn, rice, peanut, adlai, and mongo seeds, cacao leaves, coconut products, abaca fibers, as well as recycled materials like egg trays, plastic bottles, clean face masks and face shields. Lightings were also added to enhance the visual effects of the Parol.

The youth may continue the tradition to display Parols during Christmas Season as a symbol of unity, inspires feelings of goodwill, peace, hope, and love among family members, friends, neighbors, and the entire community.
