Thirty Five (35) farmers, fisherfolks, agri extension workers from Davao
City and 51 participants from other provinces and regions attended the Research Forum sponsored by Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Training Institute (DA-ATI), Fulbright Philippine Agriculture Alumnai Association (FPAAA); Philipine American Educational Foundtion (PAEF); National Economic Development Authority XI (NEDA) and Southern Mindanao Agricultural Resources Research and Development Consortium (SMARRDEC). Its objective is to disseminate resents results in sustaining agricultural and aquatic productivity in high value commodities in Mindanao through oral/poster presentations and a farmers/fisherfolks mini forum.
Eight (8) research results were presented during the said event at NEDA Conference Hall Bangkal, Davao City. The presentors were Fulbright Philippine Agricultural Alumnai Association (FPAAA) scholars. The following researches are: Updates on Biofertilizers Research for Continous Service to the Filipino People by Dr. Joy Zarate; Management of Fusarium wilt (Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. Cubense (Foc) disease in Southern Philippines By Dr. Lourdes Generalao; Management of Banana Bunchy Top Virus and Citrus Tristeza Virus by Dr. Lorna Herradura; Opportunities for the culture, conservation and promotion of indigenous Davao orchids by Dr. Amihan Arquiza; Seaweed value-adding and enterprise development in Davao Region by Dr. Della Grace Bacaltos; Potentials of Sargassum sp. As antibacterial agent and as immunostimulant for aquaculture by: Dr. Francis Baleta; Mangosteen rind: a potential organic feen additive for farm animals by Dr. Julius Jerome Ele and Joint analysis and design: Experts and farmers at work towards sustainable land use by Prof. Willie Jones Saliling.
Dr. Esmeralda Cunanan, PAEF Executive Director stressed the importance of researches and results to be used by our end users, the farmers, fisherfolks and other agri-clientele. Dir. Remelyn R. Recoter, DA-RFU XI Executive Director, gave an informative lecture on Sustaining the Productivity of High Value Commodities in Region XI and in Mindanao. She emphasized the role of the researches in sustaining agri-development of our region as well as the country. Around 20 poster researches were displayed during the whole day event. mcm
